Offering free health advice and health information 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Calgary Health Link has become a valued and trustworthy service for everyone with health concerns or questions. All they need to do is call the Health Link number,
403-943-LINK (5465).

Calgary Health Link received approximately 300,000 calls in its first year of operation; now it fields approximately 460,000 calls per year – that’s 1,260 calls per day.

About 78 per cent of callers are looking for health advice and health information. These calls are answered by registered nurses. The remaining 22 per cent of callers are looking for information on health-care programs and services.

Of the clinical calls received, approximately 59 per cent of callers are provided information on how to take care of themselves at home, 30 per cent are referred to a physician or other health-care provider, and 11 per cent are referred to an Emergency Department.

Information about infant issues is one of the most common caller requests.

Calgary Health Link currently employs 140 full-time, part-time and casual staff. TTY (hearing impaired) services are offered and translation services in 150 languages is available. The average length of each call is 12 minutes. The average wait time for a call to be answered is three minutes.

Calgary Health Link serves the citizens of Calgary, Palliser and Chinook Health Regions. It is part of a provincial service provided in partnership with Capital Health Region who serves the northern portion of the province of Alberta.
