Getting Started

 

We are currently accepting applications for daytime (8-12/

12-4) Monday-Friday, September openings.


COMMITMENT

We require a minimum commitment of 150 hours which works out to about one 4-hour shift per week for one year.

Before making a commitment, please consider:

Your values, ethics and goals; these should not conflict with those of Alberta Health Services.

Your contribution; will it be meaningful to you?

Any home/school/business commitments and how they may change in the future.

Travel time and method?

Your available time; don’t over-commit yourself.


THE PROCESS

STEP 1: Complete an application form.

All applicants will be contacted, however interviews will only be given to the applicants whose interests and availability meet current volunteer program needs.

STEP 2: Interview

If your needs and the current program needs are aligned, you will be contacted to set up an in-person interview. Please bring the following to the interview:
Two (2) pieces of government issued ID (One must be photo: i.e. driver’s license, passport; second piece of ID can be Social Insurance Card or Alberta Health Care Card).

  • Two (2) Letters of Reference
  • Immunization records

In accordance with government legislation and Alberta Health Services policy, prospective volunteers are required to successfully complete a criminal records check, a communicable disease assessment and other screening procedures as required. Your references will be checked.

STEP 3: Orientation & Training

If you successfully meet the program requirements, you will be invited to attend an Orientation Session. Material presented will be specific to the volunteer role. Depending on your volunteer assignment, you may be required to complete additional training.

You will be welcomed as part of the team by the staff at Community & Volunteer Resources and in your assigned volunteer area.
