How do I become a volunteer at the Foothills Medical Centre,  Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Woman's Health Centre, or Sheldon Chumir Health Centre?

We are currently accepting applications for daytime (8-12/

12-4) Monday-Friday, September openings.

The first step is to complete an Application form. The form can be filled out in person at our office, or click here to download the form. You can then email, fax or drop off the application to our office.

How old do you have to be to volunteer?

Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older.

How long are the volunteer shifts?

Volunteer shifts average 4 hours in length.

How often am I expected to volunteer?

Most programs require volunteers to come in at the same time every week for their regular shift. Some programs offer more flexible times.

How long am I expected to volunteer?

We require a minimum commitment of 150 hours.

How long does the process to become a volunteer normally take?

Approximately 3 to 4 weeks. The process involves the completion of an application form, an interview, successful completion of Occupational Health screening and Criminal Records check and attending a General Orientation Session.

Why is the process so lengthy?

Processes are mandated by the Provincial Government and Alberta Health Services policy. We also want to ensure that you are fully prepared to take on the duties of your volunteer assignment.

If my timetable changes, is there flexibility in changing my volunteer placement?

There is some flexibility in changing your volunteer placement depending on availability in other areas.

Do I have to stay in the same volunteer placement forever?

Volunteers are asked to fulfill a minimum commitment of 75 hours in one program before requesting a transfer. Our ability to accommodate transfers is based on current program needs.
