Social Work Overview

The social workers at the Southern Alberta Clinic are available to help with any aspect relating to HIV.

Social workers can help with a wide variety of issues ranging from basic needs such as income support programs, to counselling around diagnosis adjustment and partner and/or family relationships. They also provide advocacy for those having difficulty accessing services.

Physical symptoms may be magnified by psychosocial stressors. Social work intervention can deal with underlying psychosocial issues of an illness and help a patient and their family to understand the disease or prognosis.

Through addressing the psychosocial conditions of the patient, the social workers can assist in improving quality of life, and consequently enhance health and well-being.
