About the Chronic Pain Centre

Self management based approach to managing pain
Team of interprofessionals that work collaboratively with you
3 streams within the centre:

Neuromusculoskeletal Pain (includes pain from nerves and/or muscles)
Pelvic Pain
Headache

How to refer your patient to the Chronic Pain Centre

Referral Form - MUST be completed by the family physician

Admission Criteria:

The Chronic Pain Centre has established the following admission criteria. All referrals will be assessed on a case by case basis with primary consideration being given to the patients with the following criteria:

have current/valid Alberta Health Care coverage
be 18 years of age or older
have had the pain problem for 6 months or longer (except patients with complex regional pain syndrome and acute sciatica -- these patients will be seen on an urgent basis)
have a family doctor prepared to work closely with the treatment team and provide follow-up
be cognitively capable of participating in assessment and treatment
in stable medical condition
not have a WCB claim associated with the chronic pain problem.
not have a mental health condition that would preclude participation in assessment and treatment
not have major narcotic addiction

What to do while on the waitlist:

attend the chronic pain lecture series
attend the chronic pain living well classes and/or the other living well classes that would benefit people with chronic pain
