About the Acute Pain Services

• offered at all 3 adult hospitals (FMC, PLC, RGH)
• available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
• consists of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Clinicians, and Anesthesiologists
• consultative services for patients in the hospital with complex acute pain
• follows post surgical patients who have received spinal morphine, epidural analgesia or peripheral nerve blocks
• provides education for health care providers and patients on pain management

How to refer to the Acute Pain Service

• Patients are automatically referred to the Acute Pain Service post operatively if they have received spinal morphine, epidural analgesia or a peripheral nerve block.
