How do I know that I qualify?

Short term treatment is funded for people who require physiotherapy to get you on to the path of recovery following a recent surgery, fracture, or hospital procedure (e.g. cortisone injection).  Physiotherapy treatment must start within 12 weeks of the date of surgery, fracture or procedure.

Are there any other ways that I can qualify?compt

If you meet the region's income criteria, you may qualify for short term physiotherapy to get you on to the path of recovery after a recent sprain/strain or other injury.

What if I don't qualify?

If you don't qualify under this program, you may have coverage through health benefits or other funding programs such as:

  • Workers' Compensation Board - if you had a work related injury
  • If you were injured in a motor vehicle collision, your insurance company may cover physiotherapy
  • If you have extended health benefits, talk to your benefits provider to see if you are eligible for physiotherapy for conditions not covered
  • You may also choose to pay for physiotherapy services

How many Physiotherapy treatments will I receive?

Starting September 1, 2008 there have been several changes made to the amount of funded physiotherapy treatments patients receive. See below for details:

A client will be on their "Path of Recovery" when:

  • He/she understands their condition and the treatment/exercise protocol
  • There is an improvement in symptoms
  • There is improved function
  • The client understands how to self manage

Post Fracture: 1 Assessment & up to 6 Treatments **

Post Surgical: 1 Assessment & up to 6 Treatments **

Post Procedure: 1 Assessment & up to 6 Treatments **

**Additional funded visits may be approved, if required, based on functional need and clients meeting the region's Low Income criteria.

MSK / Soft Tissue Clients: 1 Assessment & up to 4 Treatments

Where do I go for my funded Physiotherapy treatments?

You can chose to go to any of the clinics that are currently contracted with the Calgary Health Region in Calgary or surrounding area.
