Calgary Health Link

Calgary Health Link is a convenient and reliable way to access health information and advice, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Calls to Calgary Health Link are answered by registered nurses. The nurses provide credible health information on more than 500 topics including healthy eating and active living.

A small sample of the questions Health Link is able to respond to include:
  • healthy eating for all ages including infants, children, adolescents and adults
  • active living
  • nutrition during pregnancy
  • food allergies
  • heart healthy eating
  • fibre
  • vitamins and minerals
  • healthy weights

Calls of a specific or complex nature related to healthy eating or active living are referred to the Nutrition and Active Living Helpline. Calgarians can access the Helpline by calling Calgary Health Link.

The goal of the Helpline is to provide accurate, reliable and appropriate information to assist Calgarians in healthy eating and being physically active to promote health and prevent disease.

The Helpline is operated by the Nutrition and Active Living department of the Calgary Health Region. The Helpline is staffed by nutritionists. Our nutritionists are registered dietitians, licensed to provide nutrition advice through the College of Dietitians of Alberta.

The Helpline operates on a part time basis, 2 or 3 days each week, between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Messages left with the Helpline will be answered within 72 hours.

The advice provided through the Helpline is practical information based on evidence gathered through research.

The Helpline does not provide individualized diet counseling or medical advice. The Helpline can provide information about other sources of nutrition advice available within the Calgary Health Region.
