Mental Health Promotion & Illness Prevention (MHPIP)

Welcome

As the Alberta Health Service’s formal Mental Health Promotion and Illness Prevention team, we provide leadership and resources to help others promote mental health and prevent mental illness.

As a business unit, we do not provide direct service to the public. Instead, our work is integrated in other programs, services and resources offered across the region.

Key Priorities:

Mental health and mental illness literacy

Mental health and mental illness literacy includes people’s knowledge, beliefs and values about mental health and mental illness. The goal of our team is to provide relevant, timely and current information for professionals, public, and key stakeholders.

Life skills

A life skills approach to enhance and improve resilience focuses on building social skills, cognitive skills and emotional coping skills. The goal of our team is to ensure that people have the skills to successfully function and cope with the responsibilities and challenges of daily life.

Foundational infrastructure

Foundational infrastructure focuses on strengthening relationships with health and community partners with common interests and goals. The goal of our team is to work collaboratively, by partnering with other agencies and programs to develop strategies and build capacity to  positively affect mental health and reduce mental illness.
