Calgary Injury Prevention Coalition  (CIPC) Overview

Formed in 1992, the Calgary Injury Prevention Coalition (CIPC) is a group of over 50 organizations and individuals representing diverse injury prevention perspectives in the Calgary region. The CIPC is dedicated to injury prevention to improve the well being of people in the Calgary region.

The CIPC works to reduce the frequency and severity of injuries through the coordinated efforts of several organizations and individuals by:

  • increasing awareness of unintentional and intentional injuries as major, preventable health problems
  • advocating for policy, technological, and environmental changes to create a safer community
  • promoting activities which encourage residents to adopt behaviours which reduce the likelihood of injury
  • seeking and forming partnerships with organizations and communities interested in injury prevention, in which relationships recognize and incorporate the strengths of member organizations
  • encouraging and supporting injury prevention research, evaluation, education and information sharing
