Grief Support Program

Welcome

The Grief Support Program provides a safe, supportive and healing environment for bereaved individuals to process their grief in meaningful ways.

The Grief Support Program founded by Rev. Bob Glasgow was started to encourage and strengthen people’s efforts to heal and grow through loss and grief, and to reduce the effects of high stress commonly associated with bereavement.

The Grief Support Program operates within Alberta Health Services- Calgary  and offers individual counseling and group counseling to individuals who have experienced the death of a loved one and are in need of support.

Grief counseling is offered to:

  • individuals who have experienced the death a family member or significant other including a child, parent or spouse
  • individuals or families who have experienced the sudden death of a loved one through trauma or through suicide

While referrals to the program can occur at any time of the grief experience, the Grief Support Program does not offer crisis assessment or intervention services.

Grief Education Counseling staff are available to provide grief education to the general public or community groups on request.

Workplace Grief Support Counseling staff are available to provide grief support to employees and managers who are having struggles with death and loss issues that may impact work functioning. In addition to providing client care, counseling staff offer grief education seminars and training to the general public or community groups.

Services are provided throughout the Calgary Region primarily at the Rockyview General Hospital, South Calgary Health Center and the North Hill UCMC (University of Calgary Medical Clinic).
