There is a wide variety of information on the Internet and this sometimes makes it difficult to know where to begin. The following links can serve as a guide to get you started. Most of these organizations also have an e-mail address so if you don't have time to browse their entire site, send them your questions/concerns.   • Alberta Caregivers Association
    This association educates, advocates and networks on behalf of the Principal Caregiver - the person caring for an adult with a chronic illness.
  • Family Caregivers Network Society, Victoria, BC
    Provides up-to-date information, referrals, education and emotional support.
  • Family Service Association of Toronto
    Offers program and services for seniors and caregivers
  • Canadian Caregivers Coalition
    The Canadian Caregiver Coalition is the national body representing and promoting the voices, needs and interests of family caregivers with all levels of government and the community.
  • Caregiver Network
    Based in Toronto, ON the Caregiver Network is a great resource for caregivers of the elderly and the ill. This site provides information on topics such as home support, health & daily living, care for the caregiver, caregiver issues and personal stories.
  • Caregiving.com
    Denise Brown manages this site as well as operates The Centre for Family Caregivers. The site offers advice and support. Highlights include the 6 Stages of the Caregiving Journey.
  • Family Caregiver Alliance
    This is a very thorough and easy to navigate site that provides a lot of information to caregivers. Contains a resource centre, a clearinghouse (fact sheets, publications, newsletter) and a news bureau to keep you up-to-date on news releases and current research. The fact sheets are a must see.
  • Family Caregivers' Association of Nova Scotia
    A province-wise, non-profit dedicated to providing information and practical supports to family caregivers.
  • Hospice Net
    An informative site for patients and families facing life-threatening illness. This site contains many articles for patients and caregivers on bereavement. Some titles are How to be a Supportive Caregiver, Hard Choices for Loving People, A Guide to Grief and Healing after a Loss.
  • National Family Caregivers Association
    NFCA's mission is to improve the overall quality of life of America's family caregivers. NFCA provides information and education, support and validation, public awareness and advocacy as the means for meeting its mission.
  • Newfoundland
    Provides free information and assistance for unpaid caregivers in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • The Saskatoon Council on Aging Resource Walk-in Centre
    The centre houses library information and free pamphlet materials for older adults and caregivers.
  • The Well Spouse Foundation
    Well Spouse is a national, not for profit membership organization which gives support to wives, husbands, and partners of the chronically ill and/or disabled.

    This site brings together Canada's national network of health care providers. You will have access to over 600 organizations across Canada. The site also contains a section of over 200 frequently asked questions (FAQ's).
  • Carewest
    This site provides information about its 8 continuing care centres in Calgary.
  • Medline
    This is a wealth of good health information from the world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine. Authorative and up-to-date information. Updated daily.
  • Mayo Clinic
    This helpful site provides you with information on various diseases/conditions as well as drug information and healthy lifestyle planners. Mayo specialists are available to answer questions e-mailed from readers.

  • Alberta Association for Community Living (AACL)
    This site details the activities of AACL including current issues affecting children and adults with developmental disabilities as well as an up-to-date resource centre. You can also access video clips of people telling their stories.
  • Autism Treatment Services of Canada
    This site is a good resource for families. It provides information on services offered, early intervention, educational suggestions and upcoming events around the nation.
  • Calgary Community Living Society (CCLS)
    This organization supports adults and children with developmental disabilities and their families. This site lists various services offered by CCLS.
  • Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre (DDRC)
    DDRC supports people with disabilities and their families. This site provides information on programs and services, workshops and courses offered.
  • Family Village
    An interactive site for families of children with special needs. The site contains a library of information about disabilities, a coffee shop (discussion group for parents), a post-office (a place where parents can post questions), suggestions for recreation & leisure, educational material as well as resources for adaptive products or assistive devices.
  • The Father's Network
    This is a unique site that celebrates and supports fathers raising children with special needs. Fathers can access articles written by dads, bulletin boards, resources and a wonderful photo album.
