Infants and Children


Perinatal:

  • Baby and You participants can learn about oral health in post-natal classes.
  • Best Beginning clients can learn about oral health from a Registered Dental Hygienist at education classes. Clients of this program who do not have dental insurance may receive one free dental visit at an Alberta Health Services Dental Clinic in the Calgary Area. Further care may be provided at an affordable fee.

Infants and Children (0-6):

  • Community Health Nurses at Well-Child Clinics (vaccination clinics) provide oral health information and referrals to clients.
  • Dental screening, referrals and fluoride varnish for targeted Kindergarten classes

Early Childhood Caries (ECC) Taskforce:

ECC Surveillance:

  • In 2006 a surveillance project was conducted in Well-Child Clinics to determine the oral health status of children 12-59 months.

  • Resource development including: Growing Miracles, Everyday Miracles, Creating the Circle of Healthy Childcare and a DVD to support post secondary Early Childhood Care and Education programs.
     

The Alberta Children’s Hospital Dental Clinic offers care to infants, children, and adolescents who present unique challenges and have special care needs.
