About Us


Our vision:

Adults are active in promoting and maintaining their health, well being and quality of life prior to and during their senior years

Goal:

Adults are healthier to a more advanced age, so that they add both years to their life and life to their years. This involves reducing the use of health services, and improving the functional levels, health status and quality of life of adults

Healthy Aging Sub-Goals

  • Promoting health and preventing injury/disease
  • Optimizing physical, and mental functioning
  • Effectively managing chronic conditions
  • Facilitating engagement with life

Target population

35 years of age and older

The mandate of the Healthy Aging program is to:

  • Assess the issues and trends within the Calgary Health Region regarding adults' and seniors' health promotion and disease prevention needs
  • Establish priorities for health promotion strategies and initiatives
  • Collaborate with other Calgary Health Region programs and the community to develop, implement and evaluate healthy adults' and seniors' health promotion strategies that will create sustainable community capacity

The Healthy Aging Team works with communities to:

  • Improve collaboration with adults, agencies, organizations
  • Advocate for improved supports and services for healthy aging
  • Form partnerships that strengthen our ability to promote health
  • Create supportive environments that encourage healthy living
  • Enable adults to gain control over the factors that influence their health
  • Support adults' efforts to develop personal skills that will improve their health
