The literature supports universal screening because approximately 20% of women will have a degree of PPD significant enough to require intervention/ support.

Women experiencing PPD rarely identify it themselves.

Unidentified/ untreated PPD can severely impact the emotional and physical well-being of children in the family.

Education of all PHNs re: PPD and the standards of practice.
