Addiction & Mental Health

Addiction & Mental Health is a comprehensive continuum of approximately 88 dedicated services within the Calgary Zone with approximately 50 additional contracts for services in the community, funded in whole or part by the
Alberta Health Services.

Addiction & Mental Health supports an integrated approach to care and works closely with all other areas of health to ensure accessibility, coordination and a quality care experience for clients and families.

Addiction & Mental Health are organized on the basis of two service delivery dimensions:

Clinical Populations:  Child/Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric and Forensic

Administrative Leadership is organized according to the above populations and the required clinical support systems (e.g. Information, Evaluation and Research; Safety, Risk Management & Business Practices).  The structure is comprised of an Executive Director, Regional Clinical Department Head of Psychiatry, Directors and Medical Directors.

The Continuum of Care

The Calgary zone Addiction & Mental Health Continuum of services is based on best practices for system level delivery, as defined by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA).  The CCHSA defines a continuum of care as "an integrated and seamless system of settings, services, service providers, and service levels to meet the needs of clients or defined populations".  The Calgary zone Addiction & Mental Health service goal since the year 2001 has been to maintain a network of mental health care across the continuum including: prevention and promotion services, early intervention services, crisis intervention services, inpatient acute care, rehabilitation services, outpatient and community treatment (both general and specialized), and sustain and support services to facilitate community-based living.
