Asthma At School

During the first three weeks of school in September  there is routinely an increase in infections and this causes the highest number of emergency visits for asthma in the entire year.  In preparation for this, we recommend:

children always carry their asthma medication and emergency information with them.

review your child's Asthma Action Plan with your family physician.

that children continue to take their preventer medications during the summer.  One of the main reasons for poor asthma control in the Fall is that children have stopped taking their asthma medications in the summer and then wait for symptoms to appear in the Fall, rather than planning ahead.  Click here for more information on the risks of not treating asthma.
