        Health Workforce Research Network of Alberta

A provincial network to bring focus and structure to the development of a research agenda that will enable the nine health regions in Alberta as well as the Alberta Cancer board to systematically address the workforce challenges common across the province.

Background:

 

Recent scope of nursing practice research completed in Calgary and Edmonton revealed issues that members of the Clinical Nursing Practice Leaders Network (CNLPN) found to be common to all of the health regions in Alberta. As a result, the Calgary Health Region, through the HSWRU in collaboration with the CNPLN, successfully obtained one time funding from Alberta Health and Wellness for the development of a formalized provincial research network.

 

Objectives:

 

The network will build on the program of research developed by the HSWRU and other health services research being carried out in the province to support health human resource management. Key priorities for the network will be:

·    Build “research” partnerships across the 10 health regions in Alberta as well as with academic institutions, regulatory colleges and private providers

·    Development of a provincial research agenda

·    Pursue collaborative funding opportunities from external granting agencies

·    Develop comparable data sources across regions

·    Build capacity in HHR management and research within the regions

·    Increase HHR related knowledge transfer

 

Expected Outcomes:

 

·    Evidence informed HHR planning and management

·    Research relevant to employer needs and priorities

·    Potential for western Canadian HHR Network
