Jeanne Besner, RN, BScN, MHSA, PhD (Nursing) has been the Director of the Health Systems and Workforce Research Unit since its establishment in 2001. Jeanne is a former President of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (2003 to 2005) and member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Nurses Association (2000 to 2005). She was appointed to the Health Council of Canada in December 2003 and currently serves as its Chair. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, the Quality Healthcare & Quality Work life Steering Committee and the Nurse Staffing and Patient Safety Knowledge Network.  She is currently co-PI for the “Optimizing the Practice of Registered Nurses in the Context of an Inter-professional team in primary care” study.
