Mission & Vision

The Women's Health Centre strives to offer women the opportunity to achieve and maintain optimal health and well-being.

Our History

The Women's Health Centre in Calgary, Alberta has a respected history of being in the vanguard of health care for women.  The health centre developed its origins as a home for unwed mothers in 1904.  Gradually, it evolved into an obstetrical and gynaecological hospital and over the years acquired broader surgical capacity.

Since the 1960's, women have been demanding greater participation in their health care.  Women's health began as an emerging new discipline that expanded beyond pregnancy and reproduction.  It recognizes that many women's health issues revolve around the management of health promotion and illness prevention rather than treatment and cure.

In the spring of 1996, The Salvation Army Grace Hospital was closed.  It was re-opened as the Grace Women's Health Centre and moved to its current location at the Foothills Medical Centre site. In October 2005, the Centre concluded it's formal relationship with the Salvation Army and was re-named the Women's Health Centre. With recent changes within Alberta Health Services, Women's Health Resources is now aligned within Women's Ambulatory Health.
