Health Information Network Calgary (formerly Library Services)

The Health Information Network is a new partnership between the University of Calgary and the Calgary Health Region. The Network provides access to thousands of journals and books, expert help in finding and retrieving information, community outreach programs, training opportunities and document delivery services. The Health Sciences Library at the University of Calgary is the hub for all information services for the Calgary Health Region. There are currently three Knowledge Centres at the hospital sites. 

Off-site access to the research databases is available for Calgary Health Region staff. For further information about this and the services and resources available to you, please contact us at the following Knowledge Centre locations or visit our Web site at: http://hinc.ucalgary.ca.

  • The hospital Knowledge Centres (ACH, PLC and RGH) are open from 08h00 to 16h15 Mondays to Fridays, with 24-hour staff access. 

  • The Women’s Health Knowledge Centre, a consumer health collection (located at FMC), is open Mondays to Thursdays, from 08h00 to 20h00; and Fridays, from 08h00 to 16h00.

  • The Health Sciences Library is located on the 1st Floor of Health Sciences Centre, at the north end of Foothills Medical Centre. The service desk is open Mondays to Fridays, from 08h15 to 17h00, in person or by phone at 403.220.6857 or by e-mail: medlibr@ucalgary.ca.

  • Weekdays after 17h00, Weekends, Holidays: Library personnel are available to take messages for service requests by phone: 403.220.6855.  These requests will be addressed on the next business day.

Networked Multimedia Information Services is a project of a consortium of universities (e.g. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Dartmouth College and Medical School, and Carnegie Mellon University). This link provides a link to health services resources available at a variety of sites. 
PubMed Retrieval System 
PubMed is a service of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM). PubMed has been developed in conjunction with publishers of biomedical literature as a search tool for accessing literature citations and linking to their full-text versions at publishers' Web sites. PubMed searches the 8 million citations in MEDLINE supplemented by pre-Medline citations which do not yet have MeSH index terms and by citations supplied electronically by publishers. 
Medical Informatics and Computer Instruction   
Personal (one-on-one) instruction in using computers for C.M.E. is available without charge for any Calgary physician. Instruction is available at the Peter Lougheed Center and Rockyview General Hospital sites.

    Provides a link to the Research & Development Resource Base. This is a unique bibliographic database of some 5000 references. It is an excellent starting point for CME providers confronting problems in the organization and delivery of CME, or in CME research and development.
