Design & Construction

The future site of the South Health Campus is located at Deerfoot Trail South and 196th Ave SE. Calgary firm Kasian Architecture and U.S. firm HDR are working with the Calgary Health Region to plan and design a “health campus for the 21st century”. Completion of the initial phase is tentatively scheduled for late 2011.

The campus will provide patients with a unique healing environment. For example, the building will feature outdoor views, natural lighting, soft colours and relaxing sounds. In addition, the campus will have a community feel with open spaces, gardens and wetlands, and café-style retail walkways. These features will lead to faster recoveries, reduced stress and an enhanced patient and staff experience.

Going “green”

The Campus is working towards a Silver Certification in the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) “green building” program. Following LEED standards will result in energy and water savings, and a healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff. A healthy workplace is shown to improve employee well-being, working relationships and job satisfaction – all important in attracting and retaining staff.
