Peter Lougheed Centre

A new six-storey wing and major renovations are planned at the Peter Lougheed Centre to help the hospital meet regional needs. Project plans allow future development to occur on the site. When completed, the centre will be better equipped to provide more people with safe, quality health care.

  • A new Intensive Care Unit will increase services available to the community.
  • A new Coronary Care Unit will provide services to people with heart problems.
  • A roof-top helipad on the new east wing will provide helicopter access to emergency services.
  • Project plans include “shelled” space in the new east wing to allow future development on the site.

Construction Details

A section of the west parkade has been closed to accommodate an interim relocation of the helipad. There will be an operational helipad onsite at all times during construction. The parkade was completed in October, 2006.

Several years of careful planning were done before the project was approved. In addition, consultations have been held with the community, staff, traffic consultants and other stakeholders during the planning for the project. The east addition is scheduled to be a phased in completion starting Spring 2009.
