Bone and Joint Program

The Region’s growing and aging population will require specific services related to bone and joints. To help meet these health demands, part of the Alberta Bone and Joint Program will be located in the new JR (Bud) McCaig Tower.

  • Bone and joint surgeries
  • Teaching, education and research

More components of the Bone and Joint Program will be located at the South Health Campus when it opens in 2010.

Construction is well under way. The new Tower is scheduled for completion in 2010. The ring road within the site and the overpass joining the U of C West Campus and the Foothills Medical Centre was completed in Fall, 2006.

Funding

The total funding for the project is $460 million, not including the parkades, or the interchange which was paid for by the Government of Alberta and City of Calgary.

Future Plans

More expansion and renovation will occur on the site in the future to ensure Foothills Medical Centre continues to meet the health care needs of people in the Region. The plans will be detailed at a later date, once priority health care services for the next phases are determined and funding secured.
