ADMITTING SERVICES

Welcome to Admitting Services

Each patient visit, appointment or stay at a facility or hospital begins in the Admitting Department.  Admitting Departments are open 7 days a week, 24 hours per day.

The Admitting Departments are staffed with knowledgeable and helpful clerks who register patients and ensure accurate identification is made.  Admitting staff will also ensure that all the required paperwork has been completed and appropriate insurance information has been gathered.

The Admitting Department is responsible for maintaining patient data within the Calgary Health Region Admission Discharge Transfer (ADT) system.  To achieve the level of accuracy required, patient demographic information must be verified and validated each time the patient presents.  Patients will be asked a similar set of questions each time they check in with an Admitting clerk

Admitting is also responsible for conveying patient information to other departments.

Admitting Departments are located at the following sites:

  • Alberta Children’s Hospital
  • Foothills Medical Centre
  • Peter Lougheed Centre
  • Rockyview General Hospital
  • South Calgary Health Centre

The following services are provided in an efficient and high-quality manner with strict adherence to confidentiality:

  • Patient Identification
  • Registration of patients to outpatient and inpatient areas
  • Clerical support for patient activities
  • Organization and coordination of inpatient beds
  • Collection of fees for uninsured services and procedures
  • Tabulation and dissemination of daily and monthly statistical reports on facility usage
  • Compilation of vital statistics information and documentation

Accommodation Options:

When patients are admitted to an adult acute care site they will be asked to choose which level of accommodation they would prefer.

A patient may be asked to share a co-ed room.  If an individual is admitted to a semi-private room and a suitable roommate of the same gender cannot be found, a roommate of the opposite gender may be considered for admission to the room.  Both patients must consent, and the nursing unit must feel that the pairing is suitable. If this situation does occur, patients will be moved to another room as soon as possible.
