How many inpatient beds are at the Alberta Children's Hospital?
The Alberta Children's Hospital has a total 133 beds, virtually all with windows.

Why does the hospital not have more beds?
The delivery of health care has evolved into an outpatient-focused model.  In pediatric health care research has shown that patient outcomes are improved when the child is at home with family rather than in hospital.  This facility has therefore been designed to focus on an outpatient service delivery model while providing an adequate number of inpatient rooms.

How many emergencies can the Alberta Children's Hospital handle?
The Emergency Department is designed to serve 60 thousand visits per year.

What will happen when the Alberta Children's Hospital exceeds capacity?
The Alberta Children's Hospital was designed to be expanded when needed in the future; special construction features that allow for easy expansion have been utilized throughout the building.
